Traffic Islands

Traffic Island Safety Lighting

Even when properly marked, traffic islands are apparently often overlooked or their width underestimated. This results in accidents, some of which cause serious damage to vehicles, the islands, and their equipment.

There are many reasons for this: on the one hand, islands are recognized too late due to the low beam headlights required in urban areas, and on the other hand, the curbs are often concrete gray and difficult to see. Retroreflective strips in front of the islands are worn down and lose their effectiveness due to rubber abrasion.

Urban planners are faced with the dilemma of marking the islands inserted into the formerly wide lanes as clearly as possible, but doing so as discreetly as possible in terms of the cityscape. The fact that this attempt often fails is documented by the numerous retrofits of directional arrows with red and white beacons. Nevertheless, these solutions also fail to have the desired effect due to the multitude of other traffic signs and visual impressions, especially at night.

Beckstone offers the ideal solution with a wide range of design options: while the island is marked in complete darkness without any glare and with its entire outer contour, the paving stones remain invisible during the day and are not perceived as foreign objects, even in listed ensembles.

A Beckstone installation can also be retrofitted into existing high-edged islands by means of a slightly raised inner paving at the apex. In addition to all other cost advantages, it pays for itself after just one or two repairs to the island.
